For a game about pirates and ships, the lead-up to the official announcement of Assassin's Creed IV has been riddled with leaks. And here's another one, as seen on various YouTube channels: the official premiere trailer for the game.
The trailer is narrated by the embodiment of the stereotypical pirate: Blackbeard. He sits, in a feathered hat and piratical coat, drinking from a tankard and addressing a pirate crew by candlelight:
“You ask me, can this new captain promise you a life of prizes, plunder, and adventure?”
And then we get our first look at Edward Kenway – father of Haytham and grandfather of Connor Kenway – in action, sailing a ship under a pirate flag, armed with dual pistols and swords. He apparently makes a habit of attacking other ships, swinging in on a rope, taking out the entire crew. Presumably he does this in the pursuit of riches – he is a pirate, after all – but Blackbeard later warns the crew to stay away from Kenway's private affairs and says “there's more mystery to that man than even I dare ask”.
While we can make no assumptions as to what we'll actually be able to do in the game, we see Kenway swimming underwater and walking away from a bed in which lie two naked women. So he at least seems more interesting than his grandson will turn out to be (hardly difficult, I suppose). When Blackbeard starts talking about mysteries, we see Kenway assassinate a man and lead off the woman with whom that man was walking. But is he playing the role of rescuer or kidnapper?
I guess we'll find out when the game launches for PS3, 360, PC, and Wii U on October 29th, and next-generation consoles whenever those come out.
