Naughty Dog has put together an all new trailer for their upcoming title The Last of Us to showcase its story.
It begins with Joel and an unnamed woman character, walking through the woods. The woman tells Joel that she needs 'something'—presumably Ellie—smuggled out of the city, which has become overrun with those infected by the plague that's decimated most of mankind. If I had to guess, it sounds like the woman is Ellie's mother, or caretaker.
The trailer explains how his mission has got everything to do with Ellie's survival, and showcases some of the many threats Joel and Ellie must face together if they have any hope of staying alive. We catch a glimpse of a horde of the infected, and friendly and not-so-friendly survivors who'll serve to help or hinder the duo.
Given the content of the trailer, it goes without saying that the game's focus is almost entirely on the story it has to tell and the lives of the characters who populate it, more so than any previous game by its developer.
Originally slated for a May release but delayed for the sake of polish, The Last of Us is now set to arrive in stores on June 14, 2013. It's exclusive to the PlayStation 3.
