Look I… I get that the title is supposed to be a play on how they’re looking for people who do comics. They’ve called it “strip search” because that has a duality of meaning. I get the thought train. That they’ve opted to choose something that has form and also skews a little toward a “they really called it that” joke.
…But, right, look, okay, I…
Sorry. This is just taking some time to process correctly.
Imagine you’re Penny Arcade, a company that’s been embroiled in criticism that you don’t take womens issues seriously enough, you don’t believe in trigger warnings, you made a joke that features rape and your response was to not cop to it perhaps being offensive, but to criticise those that may have an issue and belittle their argument, then you defended the artistic merit of a game entirely focused on who can kidnap the most schoolgirls.
…And you decide that the thing you’re going to call your show is related to making someone undress?
I get that nudity isn’t directly related to sex and that strip searches can happen to anyone regardless of gender, but do you even want to be in the same ballpark as a sexual reference given your history? That doesn’t seem at all wise! It even seems dismissive of criticism to the point of arrogance!
Maybe this would be fine if they’d at any point issued any kind of apology, formal or informal, for their negative actions and additions to gaming culture, but they haven’t done anything of the sort. They’ve remained insular and entirely unwilling to reflect on their failings.
Watch their reality show if you want or whatever.
