Crysis 3 has pushed Aliens: Colonial Marines from the top spot to debut as number one in the UK video game charts, according to UKIE. As I said last week, Colonial Marines obviously didn't launch at number one in its own opening week because it is a particularly incredible game, and the 84% drop in sales of the game is evidence for that. In fact, the disappointing Aliens game has slipped to fifth position in the chart, as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance debuts in second place and FIFA 13 and Call of Duty: Black Ops II continue to stay strong, now in third and fourth place respectively.
According to the UKIE report, however, neither of these two new entries – Crysis 3 and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance – have sold as many units in their first week as Colonial Marines did last week, which will disappoint those critics who are sure the former two are better games than the latter. But given that reviews were under embargo until launch, we can presume the Aliens name is responsible for selling so many units. Perhaps Crysis and Metal Gear are just not nearly as well-known in the mainstream. That said, if the quality of those two games is high enough then we should see less of a drop in sales next week.
The rest of the chart is pretty predictable. Dead Space 3 has fallen to number six with a further drop in sales of 54%, and sits just above Far Cry 3. After that, the rest of the top ten is occupied by Need for Speed Most Wanted, Assassin's Creed III, and Hitman Absolution. Head to UKIE to check out the full chart.
