Epic Games To Sue 14-Year-Old Cheater

November 29, 2017 by Jordan Coetsee

His mother responds to the allegations.

Since the launch of Epic Game’s battle royale mode in Fortnite, a huge influx of players have been funnelling into the game’s servers, and with this influx comes a host of sneaky gamers looking to cheat. Epic Games responded by banning cheating accounts and suing the worst offenders. One of which is a 14-year old child from Delaware, his mother responded to the allegation via an open letter which you can read, here.

It would appear however, that Epic Games isn’t familiar with Delaware’s laws, One of which is that it is against Delaware law to publish names on minors, and that he is unlikely to be the developer/distributor of the cheating tools because of his age. The mother also points out that she never gave consent for her son, which is required in Fortnite’s terms.

Epic has replied to all this via Kotaku, writing:

“This particular lawsuit arose as a result of the defendant filing a DMCA counterclaim to a takedown notice on a YouTube video that exposed and promoted Fortnite Battle Royale cheats and exploits. Under these circumstances, the law requires that we file suit or drop the claim.”

“Epic is not ok with ongoing cheating or copyright infringement from anyone at any age. As stated previously, we take cheating seriously, and we’ll pursue all available options to make sure our games are fun, fair, and competitive for players.”
