It’s important not only to think about the content that we were shown in today’s Playstation 4 briefing, but also think about what’s being obviously withheld and what’s just suspiciously absent.
Here’s a list of things that stood out that probably should have been accounted for:
- No reveal of what the console looks like
Sure, we saw what the controller looks like, but that’s not quite the same as being able to picture what’ll sit under our televisions in a few months. Does this mean that they haven’t yet finalised the design? Are we just going to have to wait until E3?
- No price
Will it be cheaper than the previous console? Will it be more expensive? Is the world too a different place now where a $599 price tag can't even be viable at launch?
- No EA
What’s their commitment to this new console going to be? Are they interested in supporting it with content? Are they just withholding their interest to begin with and decide later? Did they just not have anything in development to show off? Is there something more behind the scenes that we should be concerned about?
- No word of presumed downsides
A new console in the modern day has expectations that there’ll be some issues with it needing to always be connected to the internet and deny the use of pre-owned copies. You can understand that they’ll avoid bringing this sort of stuff up in an event dedicated to building hype, but it’s necessary information that we need to find out about.
- No women
Zero. Zero women showed up on stage. What does that say about PS4’s attempt at providing content for a diverse market?
- No Kevin Butler
A TRAVESTY.
- No new content from Square-Enix
They repeated an old trailer and said they’ll have more to show at E3. That’s… That’s a shame, guys. This event was about being excited immediately, not delaying our interests and reminding us of our previous delight.
