PlayStation 4: Killzone Shadow Fall Announced, Screenshots & Trailer Released

February 20, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

Killzone: Shadow Fall is the PS4’s first FPS.

The PlayStation 4 presentation is on-going, and we know quite a bit more about the platform than ever before.

Not too long after Mark Cerny's presentation of Knack, the PlayStation 4's social features and myriad of networking capabilities, Gorilla Games announced the console's second confirmed game—Killzone: Shadow Fall. It's the second confirmed game for the the PS4.

Gorilla Games explains that the Helghast have evolved and claimed genetic superiority while attempting to preserve their way of life. Taking place after the events of Killzone 3, which borrowed heavily from the events of World War 2, the new conflict now draws parallels to Cold War Berlin.

Killzone: Shadow Fall begins when the Helghast perform a terrorist attack on a civilian air-dock. Recovering from the explosion, the protagonist witnesses as a pair of soldiers are shot by to death by a cloaked unit pretending to be Vektan military. The protagonist swiftly dispatches the assassin with a knife and proceeds to support his allies as they attempt to reclaim the vicinity.

The game was presented in real time on the PS4, with a developer playing it on-stage. The game has the graphical fidelity of a PC title, and appears to sport takedown mechanics similar to Far Cry 3's. At one point, the player jumps down on an unaware enemy, taking him down with a knife, and throwing the same knife at a nearby enemy—essentially taking down two enemies in one attack.

After much shooting, the protagonist chases down the retreating Helghast and grabs onto a rope as the Helghast dropship makes its way off. A chase across the city ensues as the protagonist clings to the rope. Eventually, he destroys it with C4, jumps to safety, and the trailer ends.
