Despite incredible tribulations befalling the development of Rising, overall Hideo Kojima is pleased with what the pairing of his team and Platinum have accomplished, says the developer in a Famitsu interview lovingly transcribed by Polygon.
He’d initially lost hope that Rising was ever going to see a release and was convinced that if Platinum weren’t able to cover the development that it’d be cancelled. Even so, Platnum’s Tatsuya Minami revealed that Kojima had concerns about their overwhelming amount of projects currently in the pipeline alongside Revengance.
"Kojima was really worried about that schedule, and he'd ask me, time and again, 'You sure you can do this?' Like, if we couldn't, then there was some stuff we'd have to figure out about the future, so tell me as soon as possible if you can't."
The game is the result of the two teams working very closely. Kojima’s side took care of all the dialogue, story beats and the cinematics, while Platinum concentrated on everything else.
Democratically, Kojima let us know that:
“MGR wouldn't have been born if it were us alone, and I don't think Platinum could have made it by themselves, either. In that way, the word 'collaboration' doesn't seem like enough. My impression is that it really was a new style of development.”
Revengance is getting positive reviews across the board and everyone largely believes that it feels enough like a metal gear but also enough like it’s own entity. The franchise’s father agrees when he states:
“The Metal Gear brand is part of the game, but if you actually play it, I think you'll find this unprecedented kind of thrilling fun.”
