On the surface, sure, this is just a video of Famous Person Usher taking a break from being very good at dancing and singing hits like “OMG”, “Yeah” and the truely underrated 2001 classic “U-Turn”. He’s decided to use some time to letting us know that we should have a nice Valentine's Day with someone we love.
But there’s a lot more to unpack here.
There’s a set behind him. That’s a set that they built for a clip that doesn’t even last a full minute. Someone had to put together a mood board and send out a runner to pick up these items. They would have had to drive somewhere, search around for things that made sense in a Valentine’s Day theme and come back to prepare it.
You start wondering how many people were involved in making this video happen. There’s whoever’s behind the camera (you can see them reflected in one of the weird silver balls). The scene’s well lit, so it suggest there’s someone with specialised experience there.
Basically what I’m wondering is whether or not there’s enough people involved in the production of this video that they need a lunch table or whether they just had someone run out and get sandwiches. Does Usher like sandwhiches? What kind?
Do they have any more of these videos lined up for any other holidays? Have they got one coming out around St.Patrick’s Day?
Instead of saying:
“Happy Valentine’s Day to all of my Dance Central 3 fans out there, grab a partner, but keep it on the dance floor”
Can we assume he'll ever say:
“Happy Arbor Day to all of my Dance Central 3 fans out there, go look at a tree, they’ve got leaves”
Gameranx has reached out to Harmonix for comment.
We’ve also thanked Usher publicly.
