Atlus has a new trailer for upcoming first-person, dungeon-crawling RPG Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, an updated port of the game with the same name that was originally released on the Sega Saturn in 1997, this time for the Nintendo 3DS. The trailer provides a look at the story behind the game, which revolves around – funnily enough – demons and hacking.
The game is set in Amami City, a “cyber metropolis” in which players will be able to explore multiple areas, if the map we get a glimpse of is anything to go by. The city is a “fully network-integrated city”, which means it has drawn the attention of talented hackers. The protagonist finds himself with a PC presumably for this purpose, which happens to be shaped like a gun. His childhood friend, Hitomi, is possessed by a demon, and the game involves a fight between the hackers and those who are summoning these demons.
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers is already available in Japan, and will launch in North America on April 16th this year. Naturally, you can pre-order the game already, and some retailers have pre-order bonuses to encourage you to do just that. Pre-order through Amazon.com, for example, and as well as the game you'll get a soundtrack with “newly arranged” versions of some of the musical themes from the game, with the top six tracks as voted by fans in Japan.
Have you played Persona 4, another Megami Tensei spin off, yet? If so, does it make you want to give this a try?
