Announced in a quarterly earnings call by Warner Senior Exec John K. Martin, OXM tells us there's plans to bring out another game in the "Arkham" franchise by the end of the year.
Before you get too excited, which is probably something that could have been said before anyone mentioned "new batman game", VG24/7 are suggesting from their sources that this might not be the work of previous Arkham developer Rocksteady. This information would line up with the Variety rumour that the North London team are involved in an entirely different Batman property based on the 1950's Silver Age era.
Though we're now aware of the game's existence, the earnings call doesn't say much about anything. It doesn't even say whether this is a boxed release or even whether or not it's coming out on consoles. Given the limited time left in the year to announce and promote a massive launch, along with the change in developer, we can't rule out that this schedule could just as likely suit a handheld only release. We just aren't sure.
Speculation aside, what we can be clear on is that a new release in the Arkham series won't feature writer famed Batman scribe Paul Dini who let us know that whatever's next for the series is likely to be written in-house.
Let's not get too concerned though. A new Batman title is a cause for celebration, a rare instance of a property escaping from the pervasive stigma surrounding all games emerging from pre-existing franchise. Hopefully Warner don't put a foot wrong in uprooting a team that worked so well before.
