I've always loved a good game of pinball, and most of my experience with the game has been on the PC as it's almost impossible to find a real pinball machine these days.
Did you know that even Epic Games made a pinball game, back when they were still known as Epic Megagames? It was called Epic Pinball and it was released in 1993, in case you were wondering.
Beyond games like Epic Pinball, there was always 3D Pinball with its Space Cadet table, available as a part of every Windows release up until Windows 7. It was the go-to game for anyone bored at work, whose boredom surpassed anything Spider Solitaire could ever hope to fix.
In any case, the genre's not dead, and today's announcement of Rollers of the Realm proves that it's still alive and kicking.
Developed by Phantom Compass, Rollers of the Realm is a new take on pinball, marrying the classic game with RPG elements. Players join a band of medieval characters to reclaim the realm, and do so through the game of pinball, where they can conquer enemies (by hitting them with the ball, of course), grab loot, and solve puzzles. Each class even comes with special abilities that changes how the ball affects the environment.
It's set for release in 2013 on the PC and iPad. Be sure to watch the trailer above.
