Last month Epic Games announced that it’s Fortnite take on the Battle Royale genre, surpassed 10 million players since launch. Now the number of gamers playing the free-to-play title has officially doubled in under a month, hitting a gobsmacking 20 million players since it launched in September of this year.
You can see Epic’s announcement tweet below, as well as a small showreel the team put together to commemorate the accomplishment.

While PUBG was the originator of the battle-royale craze, there was no epic 100 man free for all on console. Epic Games saw the opportunity to benefit from the hype and released the mode for all platforms as a free-to-play title. In retrospect, it was quite possibly the best thing the studio could’ve done, hitting 20 million players in 2 months is a significant feat. That being said, let’s see Epic Games has what it takes to keep building the playerbase.
‘Fortnite Battle Royale is the FREE 100-player PvP mode in Fortnite. One giant map. A battle bus. Fortnite building skills and destructible environments combined with intense PvP combat. The last one standing wins.’
