The developers of Total War: Rome 2 have announced a new faction this week called the Arverni. The Gallic tribe is based in what is now France and is described as one of the fiercest barbarian factions in the region.
"Descended from a long line of Celts, the warlike Arverni are one of the most powerful tribes of central Gaul. Far more than mere barbarian looters and raiders, they have a complex and sophisticated culture centred at Nemossos, their stronghold near the Gergovia plateau," reads the official description, which just went live on the game's official Wiki.
The clan is guided by kings and chieftains, who follow the will of the druids.
"While many matters ostensibly fall to the Arverni's kings and chieftains, in reality, much is governed by the will of the druids, including declarations of war or peace. Blending animism with a pantheon of greater, local and lesser household gods, the Celtic religion is one of the key factors uniting the disparate Gallic tribes."
Like other barbarian tribes, the Arverni are heavily dependent upon infantry units and make great use of javelins in combat. Each charge is lead by elite warriors such as Spear Nobles and Oathsworn, who climb the ranks by proving themselves in hand to hand combat.
In real history, the Arverni and other Gallic tribes banded together to form a fighting force that drove a stake through the heart of Rome. Needless to say, they're a real fighting force to be reckoned with.
Total War: Rome 2 is exclusive to the PC. It's out later this year.
