Blizzard’s critically acclaimed RTS StarCraft II will become free-to-play on November the 14th.
StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty launched seven years ago and Blizzard has finally decided to open it’s doors to everyone. Tim Morten, production director stated that Blizzard has been looking at following a free-to-play model for StarCraft 2 for quite some time now, but have been waiting to find the right balance between new and existing players before implementing the change. Mortem also wanted to note players that there won’t be any microtransactions introduced to the free-to-play version of the game.
So what’s included in the Free-to-play version of the game?
New players will get free access to Wings of Liberty campaign. But, if you already own Wings of Liberty, you’ll get free access to Heart of the Swarm instead. The cooperative mode and competitive multiplayer will also be accessible too.
Players who get StarCraft 2 for free will have their co-op commander capped at level 5 but Kerrigan, Raynor and Artanis will remain free indefinitely. To join ranked multiplayer matches, they will have to achieve 10 First Wins of the Day.
