It's the fourth week of Sony's six-week attempt to get PlayStation Mobile on our radars, which means another PlayStation Mobile game is free to download for your Vita or PlayStation-certified mobile device. This week, it's Aqua Kitty: Milk Mine Defender, a side-scrolling shooter in which you control a team of cats that swim around under the sea looking for milk reserves buried underground.
It's a pretty unique concept, but I guess pretty much everyone loves cats. And the founder of the game's developer Tikipod, Dugan Jackson, says the game was inspired by classic Amiga and arcade games:
A lot of games from my younger years certainly have influences on Aqua Kitty. Amiga games like Turrican, Rainbow Islands, New Zealand Story – as well as late ’80s arcade games such as R-Type, Raiden, Mr Heli and In The Hunt – all great examples of fantastic pixel art design which have fed back into my own art style over the years.
It is a pretty game, in its own, retro-styled way. Besides, it's totally free for the next week, so you have nothing to lose other than a little memory space if you want to give it a try. If you do, let us know what you think. And be sure to check back this time next week for news on the fifth freebie.
