After a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised the team $555,662, just over their funding goal of half a million, Camouflaj has some more info and screenshots to share for its upcoming game for iOS, PC, and Mac: République.
According to the developer video, the team at Camouflaj has grown to around twenty people to accommodate new animators and artists and level designers. The environmental art of the world of Metamorphosis – with inspiration drawn from the Baroque style – is coming along well, and it looks beautiful. Changes have been made, including the decision to no longer use pre-rendered 2D backgrounds.
As for gameplay, it looks like protagonist Hope will have to sneak around a lot, directed by the tap of a finger rather than “virtual controls or virtual buttons”. She apparently responds differently to things dependent on what you tell her, which sounds interesting since the player assumes the role of “Big Brother”, helping her to escape from the “omnipresent Overseer”.
République is due to ship this year, coming out in the Spring for iOS and later than that for PC and Mac. With the team aiming for a 4-6 hour campaign, a story inspired by dystopian fiction like 1984, and things like voiceovers (including from Jennifer Hale!) and cinematics, this should be yet more proof that iOS can be a decent gaming platform.
