PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is undoubtedly this year’s hottest game, hitting over 1 million concurrent players on Steam, nearly every gamer is clammering for the battle royale experience.
Earlier this year PUBG creator Brendan Greene stated that he’d love to do a Single-player campaign at some stage.
“I would love to add a single player campaign to the game,” Greene told fans when discussing potential features he’d like to see make it into the game.
“I think the island we have could be a great location for an interesting story, but unfortunately we just don’t have the time or the resources for this at the moment!”
Speaking to Gamespot, he echoed his thoughts, stating that he had even written a backstory for the game’s island to provide reference points for the artists. That being said, an actual campaign won’t be happening for a while.
“Because of the lore of the island, there was an idea that I had for what I thought would be a pretty cool single-player [mode]. And even co-op single-player campaign. We have no resources. We have no time. We have no plans to add anything like this to the game. No, no single-player is coming to Battlegrounds.”
I don’t think a campaign is really necessary for a title like PUBG, it is what it is, a free-for-all on a massive Island, it feels like forcibly extending the IP. Personally, I’d be more keen for an offline practice mode against AI.
