Yesterday we received news that the Metal Gear Solid spin-off title, Metal Gear Survive finally has a solid release date, February 20th, 2018. What may come as a surprise to some is that according to the game’s website, you’ll need a permanent internet connection.While as of now it isn’t immediately clear if this is for the full game or only a portion of it.
This news comes from users on NeoGAF who discovered that a page on the game’s website contains the important disclaimer that “an internet connection is required to play the game.”
What’s more, you’ll need the relevant paid subscription service of your console to play the title online.
If you are interested in picking up Metal Gear Survive, there are a bunch of rewards for pre-ordering: Players will get four gold-plated weapons, two additional gestures, “kabuki” face paint for use on characters, a nameplate representing Motherbase, the “Boxman [The Orange]” accessory and four metallic survival scarves of differing colours.
Metal Gear Survive is a co-operative survival title set in Metal Gear’s universe. Players will have access to both single-player and co-op modes, where you have to build, develop and gather necessary resources to strengthen your base.
‘Metal Gear Survive is a survival action game in an alternative universe. In a struggle to survive, and understand this new environment, players engage in both a Single Play and connected co-op Play. In the battle for survival scavenged materials must be wrought into usable items, gear and weapons if you are to have any hope of making it home.’
