For those old enough, do you remember Flashback? It was a cinematic platformer developed by Delphine that saw release on the PC, Amiga, SNES and other platforms way back in 1992.
If you were too young to remember it, the game was a graphical gem back in the day. It showcased a rotoscoped-style of motion-capture that was very different back then. Think of it like the original Prince of Persia but with more color and with sci-fi elements attached to it.
Well, it seems original game director Paul Cuisset is bringing the classic back in high-def glory. This news comes straight from French sute Gameblog.fr, who also mention that it will be developed by Cuisset's VectorCell studio, and it will be more than just an updated HD remake, as while the level's architecture will be the same, all the characters, environmental effects and animation will be made from scratch.
Here's the first-ever screen of the remake.
This re-imagining will be called Flashback Origins and is set for release on Xbox LIVE Arcade, PSN and on Steam with Ubisoft handling publishing duties.
Sadly, there's no definite release date or schedule just yet. But for those who have fond memories of the original, this is one to keep an eye out for.
Are any of you old enough to remember Flashback or Out of This World? Do you think they can still be fun even compared with today's games?
Thanks, NeoGAF
