See that grim face above. That seems to be the face of Activision's lawyers at the modders that managed to create a pre-alpha build of the World of StarCraft MMO from the StarCraft II map tools. Apparently they want to you to use them, until you actual get good at using them. I wonder what Valve or Media Molecule think of this? Ryan, the creator of the project had this to say:
James I’m not sure if my first message went through, it was pretty long, but Activision just took action against the video. Can you believe this man? They put out a tool to let us do anything and then shut us down when we get too good with it?
Bottom Line. If Blizzard/Activision doesn’t want this to happen then it won’t. This game HAS to be pumped through the veins of battle.net to work. I hope and pray that we can come to an understanding here. If they want the name changed then I’ll change it.
It always seems that these companies, in an effort to protect themselves, end of only effect their biggest defenders, their fans. These are the people willing to go to these lengths and put this type of work in because they love the world, they love what Blizzard created and this is how they express it. It's the 21st century version of fanfiction or fanart really. Taken to nth degree of course. i'm sure we'll be hearing more on this soon enough.
