Team ICO's Shadow of the Colossus featured heavily in the post-9/11 Adam Sandler movie, Reign Over Me, and its soaring popularity has since earned it a proper movie adaptation of its own.
It's been in pre-production stages since 2009 and has only just now been ramped up into full-phase development. Sony has since picked up the talents of Hanna co-writer Seth Lochhead to work on the script, which was originally penned by Street Fighter writer Justin Marks. It's unknown whether any of Marks' original work will be retained with Lochhead now at the helm—we would hope not. It's not as if we needed another one of those types of films.
CVG reports that Lochhead is joined by the very capable Josh Tranks, who directed Chronicle, and the producer of Public Enemies, Kevin Misher.
While the original script by Marks may have served to make the movie little more than yet another fucking videogame movie, the new production crew behind the project gives us a lot of hope that they'll be able to turn Shadow of the Colossus around and make it their own.
