8.5 Million Episodes Of Telltale’s The Walking Dead Have Been Sold

January 7, 2013 by Matt Hawkins

One of 2012’s most critically acclaimed titles was also racked up plenty of sales, it would seem.

Sometimes, a game is critically praised, yet performs poorly at the cash register. And often that forumla it's reversed. But every once in a while, a game that is beloved by journalists is also embraced by the general public. Case in point, Telltale's The Walking Dead: Season One.

It has just been revealed that over 8.5 million episodes have been sold. According to CEO Dan Connors, when speaking with The Wall Street Journal, about a quarter of those sales came from iOS devices.

As for much that means, in dollars and sense:

"At about $5 per episode, that’s roughly more than $40 million in sales, not including any promotions. Each episode ends on cliffhangers, enticing the player to buy the next one."

It's an impressive feat all by itself, but when one considers how a point and click adventure managed to at least hang in the same company as Halo 4, Black Ops 2, and other high profile (and decidedly far more mainstream) titles this holiday season, it's success is all the more astounding.
