Have you ever wondered which publisher sold the most physical games in the UK last year? Based on GfK Chart-Track, it's none other than Electronic Arts.
EA managed to snag the top spot due to FIFA 12's record-breaking sales, which sold got to two million units in two weeks faster than its past iteration. Other titles that helped EA propel to the top of the charts included the likes of BioWare's Mass Effect 3, Need for Speed: Most Wanted and continuted sales of 2011's Battlefield 3.
In second place is EA's rival Activision. The Call of Duty-publisher managed to get a better share of the sales largely due to Skylanders' success.
Coming in at third is Ubisoft, the French-owned publisher released a solid lineup of games last year which saw Assassin's Creed 3, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Far Cry 3.
Here's the complete list.
2012's TOP BOXED GAMES PUBLISHERS
1. EA
2. Activision
3. Ubisoft
4. Nintendo
5. Microsoft
6. Sega
7. Warner Bros
8. Take-Two
9. THQ
10. Square Enix
While the top three slots are almost a given, what's surprising here is how high SEGA is. Sadly, no actual sales data has been released, but if I had to wager a guess, I'd say the publisher's involvement with the London 2012 Olympics and Football Manager might have been the catalysts. Unless of course, Sonic still has this much pull?!
Which publisher do you think will reign supreme once 2013's done? Will EA once again be the top dog in the UK with Battlefeild 4 and FIFA 14's release? Or will Activision manage to overtake its rival with continued sales of Black Ops 2 and its Skylanders franchise?
