Nintendo has plenty of loyal fans, and they have managed to keep them happy (as well as maintain profitability for themselves) over the years by producing a steady stream of sequels and re-releases. This applies to Super Mario, the Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, and countless other franchises.
One notable exception is the Mother series. Aside from one Western release, which saw Mother 2 as Earthbound, fans have been denied all other entries, and even a re-release of the aforementioned lone installment.
But Tiny Cartridge reports that this might soon change. According to tweets from Shigesato Itoi, the celebrated Japanese author who also created the series, Mother 3 might be released in the west at long last, via the Nintendo eShop. Presumably for the 3DS.
Needless to say, the Mother fan community are on cloud nine with such a possibility. Many of whom begged Nintendo for a US release of the Game Boy Advance version when it first came out in Japan. A request that was obviously denied.
The belief was that it was too far a niche of a release to justify the cost of localization and publication, especially since it was so late in the GBA's lifespan in America at that time.
Itoi's tweet was initially in response to rumors that he was working on Mother 4, which he has denied.
