Atlus USA has just revealed that the 3DS port of Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers is officially coming to the America, in the spring of 2013.
The game is an early entry in the Shin Megami Tensei line, though it is technically a spin off from the main Megami Tensei series. The original Soul Hackers was released in Japan only, for the Sega Saturn, in 1997. It was later ported to the PlayStation 1 in 1999.
Back in the day, Atlus USA had considered bringing Soul Hackers to North America, but they were denied by Sony Computer Entertainment America due to a policy in which games ported over had to contain new content of some sort.
The Shin Megami Tensei series has enjoyed a loyal, cult-like following in the America for many years now. Though another Megami Tensei spin off, Persona, has enjoyed mainstream success and is now major revenue maker for Atlus' American branch.
There is little doubt that the success of Persona 3 and Persona 4 has afforded the publisher the chance to bring over risker content to American audiences, who are frankly starved for anything MegaTen related.
No word yet if Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers will be both a physical and digital release. At the moment, it looks to be just the former. The asking price is $39.99:
