Assassin's Creed 3 fans, take caution. A new bug threatens to wipe out hours of save data if the proper precautions aren't taken. Players who download the new DLC Hidden Treasures, an assortment of various pre-order and bonus levels, are at risk of running into a glitch that erases main or side mission progress. Ubisoft Montreal community developer Gabe Graziani acknowledged the bug in the Ubisoft forum, saying they were able to reproduce the bug and are working on a fix and adding:
"From what we can tell, this problem seems to be rare and should generally only affect a very small number of players. That said, we're taking the speedy and complete resolution of this very seriously."
Meanwhile, they have some advice for ensuring you don't become a victim, warning:
"AVOIDING THIS BUG: Do not load your saved AC3 game while the DLC is downloading in the background. This appears to be the key trigger for this bug. You can do anything else you want to do, just don't load up your saved game and play it while the DLC is downloading."
This problem of course is only affecting the Season Pass holders at the moment, as the DLC is yet to be released to the open public. Non-Season Pass holders will be able to take their chances starting next week.
