Perhaps in a bid to convince sceptical fans of The Elder Scrolls games like Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, Bethesda has started to publicise some of the lore that has persisted throughout the series on the Elder Scrolls Online website. The Elder Scrolls Online takes place chronologically much earlier than, say, Skyrim, so it's important that the history – fictional though it may be – is accurate. Bethesda will post three short stories about the leaders of each of the three Alliances that will feature in the game:
In The Elder Scrolls Online, the people of Tamriel have a great many stories to tell—three such tales are those of each Alliance’s crowned leader. Read our first Alliance leader short story, about Jorunn the Skald-King, to learn more about his past and the events that ultimately led up him being crowned the Ebonheart Pact’s High King.
The short story is displayed on the image of a yellowed book, just like it would be in any of the Elder Scrolls games, but will that be enough to keep fans happy? Even if the history is consistent, the locations are as they should be, the character types are all familiar, the game is still never going to feel exactly like Oblivion, and some fans won't be able to see past that.
