Nintendo has put together a new promotional video for its upcoming real-time strategy game for the Wii U, Pikmin 3.
The new video sees the player traverse through the forest floor along with a bunch of Pikmin, encountering giant—or rather, normal sized—snails lady bugs, and all manner of plants and insects.
At one point, the player and his army of Pikmin face off against a giant enemy crab, which I’m sensing has become a theme with videogames these days, if only to make fun of Sony’s E3 presentation way back in 2005. In this case, the crab totally fits the setting as it isn’t taking place in feudal Japan. The Pikmin lob themselves at the crab, who captures them inside of bubbles to disable them.
The video goes on to showcase some of the gameplay which takes place at night, with bioluminescent mushrooms to serve as light sources in the dark, where they’re preyed upon by a variety of beasts and set on fire. Needless to say, it’s all very charming—and the sounds are a big reason for it.
My body is ready for Pikmin 3. It's out early next year for the Wii U.
