Whenever a new piece of gaming hardware is introduced, those who know a thing or two about cracking code are always up for busting it wide open, to see what they can do with their new toy. Especially when it comes to feats that were never originally intended.
Take Hector Martin, for example. According to Kotaku, he was responsible for the first open source driver for the Kinect. And he recently decided to see what the Wii U is capable of. Unfortunately, after giving everyone a rundown… specifically, how the processor is not all that's cracked up to be (at least to the lay person)… he concluded with the following tweet:
"So yes, the Wii U CPU is nothing to write home about…"
Ouch. Not the thing one would like hear when a new system comes out. Even if everyone know that it was never intended to mop the floor with the competition today (let alone tomorrow's). At the very least, Martin also concludes that it's not much worse than the 360's CPU as some might claim. And that's something, right?
Unfortunately, Martin is not the first and only person to make mention of the Wii U's less than stellar CPU, with the most recent example being the developers of Metro: Last Light.
