The creator of Hotline Miami – Jonatan “Cactus” Söderström – has confirmed that the game will be getting a sequel. Söderström revealed the plans to make a sequel on Twitter yesterday:
Working while listening to the sweet tunes of a preliminary Hotline Miami 2 soundtrack that we've put together during the weekend.
Only last week, the game's developers were talking about the planned DLC for Hotline Miami, saying it would probably have more playable characters, and different stories and angles. Dennis Wedin also said the team was considering whether to implement a map editor, something which apparently a lot of people have been asking about.
At the time, Söderström said the DLC would probably be about as long as the game, which meant the team would probably charge for it rather than give it away for free. Now, it looks as if that DLC has become a full-blown sequel. Speaking to Eurogamer, Söderström said:
Yeah, it seems like it will end up bigger (in terms of the number of levels we've got planned) than the first, so it feels reasonable to release it as a full game rather than a DLC.
Are you disappointed that DLC has become a completely new game? Or are you happy to wait for the sake of a fuller experience?
