Guild Wars 2 Will Get More Dungeons, Persistent Content Based on The Lost Shores

November 22, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

The Lost Shores event was a success, and ArenaNet has expressed its plans to expand upon it.

The Lost Shores

The Lost Shores event of Guild Wars 2 may be over, but the changes it brought are here to say as permanent fixtures in the world of Tyria.

The studio has had time to reflect upon what went right—and wrong—with the event last week, which saw a few technical issues in spite of being very well received by the player base.

In a new developer blog, ArenaNet's production team leader Chris Whiteside expressed that his team is happy with the outcome of the event and that they are excited to work on the new content, echoing sentiments by the community, which shared its desire to see more updates along the same lines as The Lost Shores event.

"We’re very excited about the new content, and from the reactions we have seen, so are many of you," he wrote. "Players have already spent an incredible amount of time in the new Fractals dungeon, and their reaction to it has been phenomenal."

The developer went on to elaborate upon what the community felt it enjoyed about the update and their plans to deliver more of the same in future content.

"A lot of players really enjoyed the trailblazing aspect of unveiling the new Southsun Cove map, specifically the feeling of discovery and being part of the land grab. Having said that, we’re also aware that there were certain aspects of the event that could have worked better than they did.

"At ArenaNet, we always try to push the boundaries of how we build online worlds, and we thank you for your patience and collaboration as we pioneer into unknown territories. We’ve seen people saying that they really liked the principle of using events to unveil new content, but we need to tighten up the methods by which they are deployed.

"We take these comments to heart, as it is our goal to always deliver content of the highest quality."

To that end, the developer said that the team will develop more dungeons for the Fractal of the Mists, a revamp of all currently existing dungeons, and additional content for Southsun Cove. ArenaNet will also add more variation to monsters throughout the world by tweaking its open world scaling system and add more variations on the present events.

Finally, the studio will add more Guild content and Guild progression features in hopes of turning the game into a viable PvP game, for players who enjoy those features.
