We've reported more than a few times already that the Vita is not doing so hot in its homeland. But a recent figure cited by Gamastura really puts its poor performance into perspective.
Last week, the Vita hit another all-time low (again) in Japan, by selling only 4,021 units. As for its primary competition, the Nintendo 3DS managed to sell 187,077 units. Which, as Gama points out, is a 47-to1 margin. Yikes.
It's worth nothing that the 3DS did especially well last week due to the long-awaited arrival of Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the system. It debuted at the very top of the charts, with a super impressive 721,786 copies sold.
As for the Vita, one of its fundamental problems remains: lack of compelling software. Perhaps if something as desirable as Animal Crossing came along, the Vita would do much better (as it did earlier this summer with the Persona 4 port).
But if numbers continue to diminish, and at such a stead pace, the incentive to make games for the platform in the first place will also continue to disappear.
