GTA 5: New Screens Released, Rockstar on GTA Outside of America

November 12, 2012 by Alex Co

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser talks Grand Theft Auto 5 in a new interview! New screens pop out, too.

Now that Game Informer's coverstory for Grand Theft Auto 5 is out in the wild. Rockstar is now more and more accommodating when it comes to info pertaining to the game.

In an interview with Dutch site InsideGamer, vice president of creativity and co-founder of Rockstar Games Dan Houser talks a fair bit about Grand Theft Auto 5. One of the questions asked was, would a Grand Theft Auto game set outside the U.S. — say, Europe or Amsterdam — work?

Here's Houser's response (translated by NeoGAF):

I don’t know. I thought about it. A lot. Argued it every which way. I think, my own sense, speaking for myself and not for the company, is that it’s as much a product Americana… That’s such a big part of the game. You know, you could make a great game set in Amsterdam. Would it be GTA? I don’t know. We haven’t done it, so I can’t really offer a comment or an opinion on it. We’ve avoided it because we think that part of the experience of GTA is its engagement with America, or American media, American movies, American culture or whatever. Some kind of Americana is such a part of the games, that in removing that, it would bizarrely make them lose their universality.

Houser also talks about having three main characters in GTA 5 and adds, "It's a relief, because you can do more. But since it has not been done before, it is an extra challenge. From the idea of writing it is not particularly complex, though of course it challenging to all three characters separately to feel like a hero in their own action movie."

In addition to the interview, a bunch of new screens has also cropped up. We have some of the interesting ones below for you to drool over.

To see the rest of the screens which shows cars, guys and even a jet, click here.

We'll be sure to dig up more Grand Theft Auto 5 info once we find them. I know I'm not the only who thinks that "Spring 2013" release seems so very far away?

Would you want a Grand Theft Auto game set in Europe, Amsterdam or Asia? Sound off and let us know.
