Final Fantasy XIV, the MMO from Square Enix, came to an official end yesterday. Kotaku has reported that the finale didn't go so well, with technical difficulties brought on by the large numbers of players who wanted to join in with the final moments of the two-year-old game.
The ending was marked with the release of a trailer for the upcoming remake of the game, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The trailer, subtitled “End of an Era”, features some of the climactic moments seen in the “Fate of Eorzea” trailer earlier this year. We get to see the epic battle between the Eorzean Alliance and the Garlean Empire, and witness exactly why the realm is going to need to be reborn, with the emotional theme song – Answers, sung by Susan Calloway – playing in the background.
The forums for the game are full of people expressing their emotions on viewing the trailer, too, with more than a few tears apparently shed. Fans will have to wait until 2013 to get their saved characters into the new game, which still need to go through beta. And PS3 players will be rewarded for waiting too, as A Realm Reborn will be the first version of Final Fantasy XIV to be available for them.
