This week has been a good week for video games in the political arena. We've already reported how a nominee vying for a senate seat in Maine was able to reign supreme, despite a smear campaign orchestrated by rivals that was entirely built around her love for video games.
Well, here's another victory for us all: Democrat Joseph Baca no longer has his seat in California's 35th Congressional District. On Tuesday, fellow Democrat Gloria McLeod successfully won her challenge, with 55.7% of the vote in her favor.
Who exactly is this Baca fellow? You may have heard of him before: over the years, he's that one government official who has been pushing (and quite hard) to pass legislation that would demand that all video games have warnings on them, in the same exact manner that cigarettes do.
A typical one, GamePolitics explains, would be something along the lines of: WARNING: Exposure to violent video games has been linked to aggressive behavior.
Over the years, Bacca has repeatedly claimed that parents must be warned of the supposed scientific evidence that demonstrates a relationship between violent video games and violent behavior. Despite the fact that no such universally agreed upon proof actually exists.
His stance on video games is obviously not the sole reason for him losing his seat, but if that's how he carried for his business overall, it's little wonder why he no longer has his job.
