Remember the excitement of getting the latest issue of your gaming magazine of choice in the mail? There’s little feeling that can replace that—other than popping in a new game of course. Sadly, it looks like print gaming magazines are all slowly going extinct as PlayStation the Official Magazine is the next one on the chopping block. The news follows long-running Nintendo Power’s cancellation at the end of this year. Like Nintendo Power, their holiday 2012 issue will be their final one. This issue, issue 64, will debut in November.
PlayStation: The Official Magazine, like Nintendo Power, is owned by Future US. Future coincidentally owns quite a few online gaming websites, so I suppose we should have foreseen this happening. PlayStation: The Official Magazine is the much older PlayStation Magazine’s successor. The current iteration is five years old, while the older one began back in 1997. Likely all print magazines will see the same fate, as they are cancelled or transferred over to digital or websites thanks to the Internet.
