Last night, EA took to Twitter to inform Battlefield fans that it would be making Battlefield 1942, the first game in the series, free to download on Origin. The offer – which is presumably for a limited time only (the download expires on March 1st 2013) – has been put in place to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Battlefield, as well as the success of the Battlefield 3 Premium service, which now has more than two million members:
“To celebrate our 10th anniversary and two millionth Premium member, we are giving away BF1942 for free!”
Battlefield 1942 originally came out for Windows in September 2002 (and Mac in June 2004). The game can be played in singe player against the computer, but it's known for its multiplayer. Working cooperatively, you must capture the enemy team's control points. You can play as one of five infantry classes – scout, assault, anti-tank, medic, engineer – and take control of a variety of vehicles including fighter planes, submarines, and tanks. The maps in the game include locations in the South Pacific, North Africa, and Eastern and Western Europe.
If you want to take advantage of this offer while it lasts, head over to Origin now.
