Nostalgia has gone to new heights in recent years. For the children of the 80s, we yearn to reconnect with our childhood. Games like 3D Dot Game Heroes or Half-Minute Hero pull on our nostalgia chains even though they run on today's machines. Movies like Scott Pilgrim vs The World make us pine for some strange world where video games and reality are inter-twined that it's totally ok to fight a bunch of dudes for a chance to earn the love of a woman. And then, there's a whole new way to experience nostalgia: movies like The Hit Squad.
The Hit Squad is a documentary about a washed up 80s Synthpop named The Hit Squad as they fight to re-establish themselves in a post-nostalgia universe. Oh, and this documentary is filmed using eveything 8-bit. So, one part 80's video game, one part South Park, one part 80's music, and all parts nostalgia equals a roller coaster ride of nostalgic regret as we all the children of the 80s begin to cope with growing older. The trailer (just released today) summarizes the movie as:
"The Hit Squad follows Roddy Stones and his washed up 80s band 'The Hit Squad' as they try to win back their fame, fortune and recording studio, which is being taken over by their infinitely more successful rivals 'Scourge'."
Today, thanks to generous donations through their fundraising on indiegogo, The Hit Squad is poised to rock the hearts of millions. Pre-Orders have begun for a worldwide release sometime in 2013. You can pre-order through their website and find more information there as well. You can also read development history on their Facebook and Indiegogo pages.
