Even if Gran Turismo 5 is the lowest-reviewed major entry in the franchise (excluding the PSP version), that hasn't stopped racing fans from lapping it up, as Polyphony Digital has just announced that Gran Turismo 5 has now reached over nine-million units sold worldwide.
I admit, that's impressive, but that's still far-off from the series record set by Gran Turismo 3: A-spec, which is at over 14 million units. sold Equally impressive is the franchise's overall sales which is now near 68 million units.
Here's the full breakdown of each game's lifetime sales to date:
Polyphony's other data reveals that Gran Turismo 5's sales breakdown is at around 2.2 in the U.S., more than 5.5 million in EU and just over 1.7 million units in Asia and Japan combined.
While the Gran Turismo name is nowhere near as hot as it was during the PS1 and PS2 era, nine-million is nothing to scoff at. Although if Gran Turismo 5's development time is to be applied to the next iteration of the franchise, then I think it will be a long wait until we see Gran Turismo 6.
