We recently covered a report on Nintendo sending out the last shipment of their highly popular NES Classic Edition consoles for Australia. In case you’ve been living under a rock, these were small plug-and-play style consoles that came preloaded with classic titles from the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Shipped within November of last year, gamers were having a tough time tracking down a unit to purchase for themselves. Each shipment of new units that hit retail shops was instantly picked up by gamers or resellers which meant having to hold out for a new shipment or pay the extra upscale fee from a reseller.
Nevertheless, the popularity of these units may have given some relief to some gamers who may not have already purchased one, as surely Nintendo wouldn’t wrap up production of these units, would they? Turns out that’s exactly what’s happening to Australia and now North America as a new report from IGN confirms that Nintendo will be sending out their last shipment of units this month.
IGN spoke with a Nintendo representative which stated the following.
“Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that, we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.”
Now all eyes are on Nintendo to see if they follow up with the NES Classic Edition with a SNES Classic Edition followed by an N64 Classic Edition.
