RPG Codex has put together a most amusing interview with game developer Cleve Blakemore about his dungeon-crawling RPG Grimoire: Heralds of the Winged Exemplar.
Developed in the vein of the old Wizardry titles, Grimoire has remained in development for over 17 years, making it older than Duke Nukem Forever. Over time, the game has seen multiple restarts because of Blakemore’s supposed perfectionism.
Blakemore had many things to say about the development of the game and how it would’ve never come about under the banner of Sir-Tech.
“Sir-Tech would have never let me make this game,” he wrote. “They would have had ten mediocre cooks spoiling this broth and it would taste so foul when it was finished nobody could stomach it. This game ended up being pure Cleve Blakemore from start to finish and when people play this game they will have a good idea of what is meant by ‘pure Cleve Blakemore.’”
Blakemore attributes his perfectionism to his “neanderthal genes”, which is something the interview explores rather in-depth. It's hard to tell if he's being serious or not.
The developer intends to release the game in 2013 and has since put the game up for funding on indiegogo. If you’d like to see this madness come about, you can contribute to the fund on indiegogo.
