It has been a tumultuous few years for Sony. In April of 2012, Sony posted record losses (900 billion yen or 11 billion US Dollars). This came on the tail of a Lulzsec attack on Sony's Playstation Network that brought the service to a halt a year earlier. After promising Playstation 3 Owners that good things were coming, that things would get better, Sony now finds itself with a mini-revolt on its hands in Europe.
In Europe, the latest Playstation Network update (firmware update 4.3) installs an icon onto the XMB that cannot be deactivated, hidden, or even moved. When European Playstation Owners turn on their Playstation 3, the first thing they see is this unmovable icon.
To date, around 900 people have posted how much they dislike the SingStar Icon. Fred Dutton, managed of the EU Playstation Blog stated:
I’m afraid I’ve got nothing to add at present other than that all your feedback has most certainly been noticed and is being carefully considered by the relevant teams. If I have news about future updates, I will of course let you know immediately.
This firmware update also allows Vita owners to view their Vita Trophies on the Playstation 3.
