Zombies are coming to Team Fortress 2 and no amount of medical attention is going to be able to stop their onslaught.
Valve has announced that zombies are coming to the ever-popular free-to-play shooter as a part of the game's Halloween event, which will run for two weeks. The event will add a new zombie-themed Mann vs Machine mission that sees the rise of the walking dead, and a new King of the Hill map haunted by the ghost of the Soldier's nemesis, Merasmus.
According to Valve, Merasmus has a surprise planned for players who visit the map. A magical booby trap on the control point will spin a "wheel of fate" every time it changes hands, potentially rewarding (or dooming) the controlling team.
“One of many potentially horrible fates await you! Or maybe something good!” teases Valve.
The event will also see an entire host of new items ranging from new magic spells to themed items. The magic spells will function like kit upgrades and allow you to modify your existing items by upgrading them with "shifting paint colors, ghost summoning, flaming footsteps, and more."
New achievements have also been added to the game, the first of which you'll receive for killing Merasmus. To get the second, you'll have to "get to SKull Island and claim your reward!" or something like that.
The event starts today, so simply start up your Steam client later tonight to download the latest update, which will be available for both the Mac and PC.
