While the Wii U version of Assassin's Creed 3 will utilize the GamePad in ways that can't be mimicked by the other versions. as a whole though, it will "exactly be the same game that's on the other platforms" according to creative director Alex Hutchinson.
In an interview with GamesIndustry, Hutchinson states the Wii U version of Assassin's Creed 3 "is not some radically dimished version," and this fact makes it "exciting."
I'm super excited whenever we demo the Wii U,..It is exactly the same game that's on the other platforms. And I know that sounds ridiculous, but it's been a long time since I've shipped a game on more than three platforms where you could say it's all the same. It's not like some radically diminished version, so that's exciting.
I do get what Hutchinson is saying, but at the same time, it's not exactly comforting to hear that a supposed next-gen console can only muster parity with its current-gen counterparts. Come to think of it, should Wii U buyers be happy in hearing things like these or should they expect their versions to be better since the Wii U, technically is, a next-gen console?
Assassin's Creed 3 will be out on October 30 for current-gen platforms, while the Wii U version is expected to hit store shelves on the console's launch on November 18.
