According to site Electronic Theatre, Microsoft Studios has begun contacting Xbox LIVE members to inform them of an upcoming service update for the Xbox 360. This update has been over two years in coming https://gameranx.com/updates/id/614/article/xbox-360-dashboard-update-coming-soon/ but it seems that it's inspired by both the Windows 7 phone UI and the upcoming Windows 8 UI.
There will be an update to both the text and voice based search service that will allow you to search for content by category or genre, and then filter your results. The main update is that the Xbox 360 dashboard will be customizable, allowing gamers to pin their favorite items to the front end of the dashboard as well as taking previous searches into account to offer recommendations–something Windows 7 phones have had for a while.
Xbox 360 owners will also be able to control entertainment with a new app called Xbox SmartGlass that will allow a linked smartphone or tablet to be used as a companion device. The update will also come with an Xbox 360 version of Internet Explorer.
So when can you expect the update? According to ET, no specific date has been announced yet but since Microsoft has already updated the service agreement, they believe it can't be too far away.
