They do such a wonderful job with it as well. It felt like I was playing a lost episode of the show. Just hearing Scrooge and Launchpad go back and forth during the Amazon stage had me smiling from ear to ear, and watching Gizmoduck wheel around with me on the Moon blasting baddies with rockets had me cheering the entire time. It was such a treat to see and hear.

Topping off the package are tons of unlockables–concept drawings, character sketches, artwork from the TV show, and more–that extend the game’s lifespan beyond the couple of hours it’ll take you to reach the ending. Whether you’re a Disney devotee, a retro enthusiast, or just a fan of well-crafted platformers, there’s plenty to enjoy. Though DuckTales Remastered might not live up to its esteemed precursor in every single regard, it surpasses it in others, and ends up incredibly fun on the whole. Woo-hoo indeed.

Sadly the enemy AI is non-existent with the Beagle Brothers, ghosts and hockey players following preset paths rather than chasing Scrooge. Timing your jump is extremely important and on the harder modes the game can be extremely frustrating with enemies appearing when you are mid-jump and knocking you to your death.

Gamers and Disney fans have a potent nostalgia for the DuckTales franchise. The 8-bit classic is remembered fondly as a top-notch platformer, and the cartoon’s cultural impact is deep enough that most 20- or 30-somethings can hum the theme song on demand. DuckTales: Remastered blends the cartoon and the NES game together beautifully. Fans of modern platformers can expect a simple lighthearted romp, but gamers who grew up in Duckburg are the ones who shouldn’t miss out on this endearing homage.

DuckTales Remastered was almost worth the hype and anticipation. Almost. The constant chatter and sudden halts in the action really killed a lot of the fun I would have otherwise had. The graphics and animations are fantastic, the updated music is near perfect and, c’mon, the ability to swim in the Money Pit is pure gold to anyone who grew up in the 80’s. It is such a shame to see one huge flaw drag everything else down, so with a heavy heart, I’ll give DuckTales Remastered a…
