Let It Die: How to Skip the First Boss | Beginner Tips & Tricks

December 27, 2016 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Only on PS4: Having trouble with the first encounter in Let It Die? Just skip it! Here’s how to avoid COEN completely.

Let It Die is a strange mix of genre that’s going to make life difficult for players that aren’t already familiar with the hack’n’slash hardcore formula of Dark Souls. Basically, dying in Let It Die sucks — if you’re more about conflict avoidance, then we’ve got good news for the first mid-boss battle in the game.

There’s a way to completely avoid COEN, the first mid-boss of Let It Die. You can actually skip many of the bosses — those tough, science-experiment freaks that pop-up in blood-stained floors periodically as you climb the Tower of Barbs. Mid-bosses can be tough if you don’t bring the right weapons to the fight, and skipping them isn’t always such a bad idea. If you’re new to Let It Die and want to save some heartache to continue your adventure, here’s a simple strategy to totally avoid COEN.

How to Skip the First Boss | Beginner Tips & Tricks

[NOTE: Defeating Mid-Bosses will unlock certain paths in the Tower of Barbs. Some escalators can’t be accessed until mid-bosses are defeated.]

The first boss, a disgusting mash-up of multiple corpses stitched together called COEN, first appears on 3F TAMATA. This blind beast uses echo-location to crush your clone, but if you’re struggling with the first encounter and want to still experience what the Tower of Barbs has to offer, you can skip this battle by following an alternate route.

To access alternate routes, make sure you have completed installation of Let It Die on you PS4 Console. Only the main route (up to 3F) is available during the pre-installation phase.

  • From 1F IKEGARA, find the alternate escalator exit to 2F WANOKI.
    • To easily identify if you’ve found an alternate exit, simply check and see if there is a nearby elevator.
    • Main path exit escalators will always have an elevator located nearby. If you don’t pass an elevator, it’s likely you’ve stumbled across an alternate exit path.
  • Fight through 2F WANOKI to the exit with the alternate elevator that leads to 3F KAM-IKEDOI
    • 2F is actually a difficult floor, so be prepared for a fight. Move slowly!
    • 3F KAM-IKEDOI is an incredibly short floor — there’s only one encounter leading to the exit.
  • The main exit of 3F KAM-IKEDOI is down the first hallway and up the stairs. It leads to 4F HYAKUDORI.
    • That’s it! You’ve just skipping 3F Tamara and avoided the first boss battle.

That’s all it takes. 2F WANOKI is tough, but it’s also filled with items to loot. 3F KAM-IKEDOI, if you take the main path, is extremely short. There’s only one Screamer to deal with before reaching the exit.

4F HYAKUDORI features an elevator that leads back down to the Waiting Room, so this is effectively a permanent skip. You can also make a pit-stop at the Waiting Room and drop off all the items you collected. Not bad, right?
