First-person shooters have been flooding the market these past few years and there have certainly been quite a few titles worth picking up. As we head into 2017, we already have a number of video games listed that we can’t wait to get our hands on.

Battalion 1944

Battalion 1944 is an upcoming video game based on World War II, from a development team composed of former AAA developers, Bulkhead Interactive. Developers are hoping that Battalion 1944 will recapture the enjoyment spent from some of the classic multiplayer shooters such as Call of Duty 2 and Medal of Honor.
After a successfully Kickstarter campaign, Bulkhead Interactive has been working on a release that will allow players to fight in real world locations such as the streets of Carentan or the forests of Bastogne. Furthermore, there is no emphasis on grinding, but rather a focus on the players and their skills.
Prey

At this point, not too much is known about Prey. Originally, the video game was first set to be a sequel to Prey, which had released back in 2006. However, after the game rights were passed around and ultimately canceled, the video game would be picked up as a re-imagining of the first Prey installment by development team Arkane Studios.
From what has been revealed so far, Prey will take place during an alternate United States timeline. President John F. Kennedy had survived his assassination attempt and as a result, Kennedy continued a push into funding the space program. The start of the game campaign will be taking place on Talos I, a space station that has been built during Kennedy’s term and continues to flourish in the year 2032.
Destiny 2

Destiny was met with a positive reception from critics and fans alike and now we are gearing closer to its official sequel release. While we’re still awaiting news regarding the title, developers Bungie had confirmed that Destiny 2 will be releasing at some point in 2017.
With the sequel release, it will be interesting to see if past characters from the original Destiny installment will carry over. Likewise, perhaps we’ll find more lore, explore bigger open world environments, along with new multiplayer modes, and weapons. Likewise, it would be nice to see the sequel to Destiny also launch on the PC platform.
Insurgency: Sandstorm

Fans of tactical first-person shooter video games may want to take notice in the upcoming New World Interactive release, Insurgency: Sandstorm. This is an upcoming video game that is a remake of Insurgency, a title that originally released for the PC back in 2014.
There is plenty of co-op team game modes that released originally for Insurgency and being a tactical shooter, strategy and working together is a must to survive. Unfortunately, the video game doesn’t have an exact release date attached quite yet other than a launch set in 2017.
Strafe

During the 1990s, first-person shooters were big with releases such as Doom and Quake and now we have a video game title that will attempt to bring homage to those early video game releases. Strafe is a video game currently being developed by Pixel Titans and it’s full of nonstop action.
Strafe puts players into the shoes of a common scrapper, a person set to scrap recyclable materials. You receive a job that will put you into the edges of space where communications are unable to reach. As you board your job site, the spacecraft Icarus, you find that something onboard has gone wrong.
This is a fast-paced first-person shooter with a slew of weapons, endless randomly-generated levels, enemies, power-ups, and secrets. To top it off, there will be VR support for Strafe, allowing players to use an Oculus Rift headset.
Quake Champions

Quake Champions was first introduced to the world during E3 2016 and from that debut trailer, it seems that id Software is looking to bring their own spin to the hero type first-person shooter genre. For the most part, there seems to be a wide range of characters with their own unique abilities and skills.
Though we’ll have to wait and see just how well Quake Champions compares to video game titles such as Overwatch, there is already an interest in the title from gamers as this will be the first main entry to the Quake series since 2005’s release of Quake 4.
What is worth pointing out is that while Quake Champions has been confirmed for a release on the PC, developers have announced that they are not ruling out a release for console platforms just yet.
Get Even

Get Even’s story by development studio The Farm 51 is still relatively unknown, but at the same time, this first-person shooter is said to have inspiration from the Silent Hill and The Matrix franchises, so we can likely expect a personal and well in-depth narrative.
Overall, players take control of a protagonist who takes on investigations from high profile individuals and even the Government, but this latest job seems to have our protagonist questioning his own reality.
Outside of the game story, one element that gamers may find an interest in is the experimental technology called Thorskan. The Farm 51 development studio has been using this technology to scan real environments in order to recreate them in full 3D for their upcoming video game release.
P.A.M.E.L.A.

P.AM.E.L.A. is a video game currently in development by NVYVE Studios. This particular title is set in a fictional utopian city known as Eden. In this world, mankind strives to become a nation of perfection, though this goal really came at a cost to the people living within Eden.
Players awake from a cryo-sleep in Eden to only find that the world was invested by a bug that has disfigured most of the individuals causing them to act unpredictable and at times hostile. This is an open-world video game where players will have to figure out the story as the explore, gather resources, and adapt to the full day/night cycle present within the game.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3

If you enjoyed the past Sniper installments then you’ll find that the third installment, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3, will look and play better than ever. Developers are really pushing to release a triple AAA video game with their third installment.
Players will take on the role of a retired American Marine named Johnathan North. The nation is in shambles with a Cold War closing in along with a proxy war and civil war taking place in Georgia.
In the video game narrative, players will be heading out to Georgia to take out its intruder though it seems that our protagonist shares a dark past with this unknown individual.
Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil 7 is generating quite a bit of buzz. This upcoming installment is changing a few things up such as players will be going through the game in a first-person perspective. Likewise, Capcom seems to be going back to the original tone of the Resident Evil franchise with less action-oriented moments and a more survival-horror atmosphere.
The game is set to take place four years after the events of Resident Evil 6, in a fictional city of Dulvey, Louisiana. Players will be taking on the role of Ethan, a man who is searching for his missing wife, where his investigation leads him to a derelict plantation mansion, home of the oddity Baker family.
It seems that Ethan will have to escape from the cannibalistic Baker family while also searching for clues of his missing wife. To give players an extra little scare, Capcom is adding PlayStation VR functionality to the game.
Dead Island 2

Dead Island 2 was unveiled during E3 2014 and we’re still eagerly waiting for the title to release. Set to be the third installment to the Dead Island series, Dead Island 2 is said to feature a new open world taking players throughout Los Angeles, San Francisco, and another undisclosed location within California.
Overall, the story follows several months after the events of Dead Island, where the United States Armed Forces have put all of California in a full quarantine due to the zombie outbreak. The video game itself has had a rocky development process with the title originally slated to launch in 2016.
However, with Sumo Digital taking over the video game development, it’s expected that the title will see a release at some point in 2017.
Dusk

Inspired by video game titles such as Quake, Blood, Heretic, Hexen, Half-Life, and Redneck Rampage, Dusk is all about butchery and bloodshed. Players will find a first-person shooter inspired from 90’s cult classic video games full of a vast arsenal of weaponry, an endless survival mode, along with online multiplayer matches.

There’s really not too many details available quite yet for the upcoming sequel to Star Wars: Battlefront. We know that the project is in the works and that there is plenty of aspects that EA will likely look at from fan criticism of the first installment of EA Dice. EA did announce that gamers can expect a campaign that will span across several movies, though it was not confirmed if we will see events from The Force Awakens or Rogue One.
