Skill Seed Farming – Techniques, Tips & Tricks
Increasing skill seeds on your jobs will naturally occur just from playing the game, but if you’re eager to rank up quicker, there are some tricks you can use. To make things easier, we’ll separate the tips into two sections; one set for beginners, and a more advanced guide for high-level job cards.
Beginner Farming Tips
Here are a few beginner strategies even early-game players can take advantage of to increase skill seed / abilities.
Before getting started, always focus on your 3-Star cards. 1-Star or 2-Star cards should never be used as your main abilities. Only use 1-Star or 2-Star cards to level-up your important 3-Star cards.
- Increase the difficulty slider.
- If you can handle tougher battles in lower or similar-leveled areas, consider increasing the difficulty for greater rewards.
- Do increase difficulty, pause the game then go to Configuration to find the difficulty slider.
- Fight the toughest opponents you can handle. 3+ battles and a boss are the best early areas to earn rewards. Boss fights offer a unique currency that will help you evolve your cards and increase their maximum level cap.
- Like all Final Fantasy games, watch the map for Cactuar — though you’ll want to avoid giant cactuar for now!
- The Metal Cactuar cards are amazing for ability / skill seed fusion.
- Growth Eggs are another card that will help you gain more ability / skill seed.
Fusion is an important part of developing your cards. To rank up abilities / skill seeds, you’ll have to start fusing. To fuse, you’ll need to use identical (weaker) cards, or use cards of the same element.
- When leveling-up Event Cards, don’t settle for a 90-99% fusion success rate. Always go for 100%.
- If you need that extra boost, purchase 4-Star Mog Amulet Cards from the Item Shop.
Also, as much as you might want to automate the grinding process, DO NOT USE AUTO-BATTLE. But! If you’re comfortable with battles, you can use the double-speed icon above the ability cards deck. This increases the speed of battles.
- If you want seeds from a particular ability card, make sure to fusion that card and increase the skill seed level. The higher the skill seed level, the more seeds you’ll earn in each battle.
That’s just about everything you need to know. Now let’s move into the advanced skill seed farming challenge — defeating Giant Cactuars.
Advanced Farming Tips
Giant Cactuars exist solely to help you grind and increase your stock of cards. They’re also pretty tough, and not an easy target to defeat. But, if you’re strong enough, they’re the best method for farming.
- It costs 3 Mystery Slates to enter the bonus area. You’ll have 30-minutes before the map resets. You can leave the area and come back later without paying the entrance fee again within those 30-minutes of real-time.
- You can reset before the 30-minute timer is up by paying the 3 Mystery Slate cost again.
- After the 30-minutes are up, you’ll have to pay the entrance fee again to re-enter.
Why do you want to farm Giant Cactuars?
- The enemies in this area (Giant Cactuars) provide a x20 Skill Seed bonus multiplier
- One of the most valuable items in the store is the Mobius Gift Box. It costs 1,500 Magic Stones, but provides a +50% Skill Seed bonus.
Before entering the bonus area, here are a few tips to get you started.
- Only enter with decks / job cards that can withstand 1,000 Needles. This does 1,000 damage in a single attack. On hard mode, their is a variant of this attack that dishes out 2,000 damage. Go enter battle only if you’ve got at least 2,000 HP.
- Giant Cactuars will also use lighter 200 or 500 damage attacks.
- Be prepared to heal. Bring a Support Card or a Rental Card to heal up.
- You won’t know which element you’re up against before entering the Giant Cactuar bonus area. Be prepared to switch Jobs or hope for the best — keep the cards you want to for elements for in your main deck, and place all the buffs / debuffs on your sub deck. That’s the deck you’ll want to attack with.
- This is all about DAMAGE. Bring debuffs to lower the defense of your targets, and charge Ultimates to hit those Cactuars hard and earn a huge score.
- Use weapons with auto-abilities that charge your Ultimate Skill gauge. Using those Ultimates makes all the difference in the world.
Once you enter a battle, here’s the basic sequence of play. The goal is to defeat at least one of the Giant Cactuars with an Ultimate Skill.
- Build your Ultimate Skill gauge with normal attacks and Elemental Drives.
- It helps if you have elements that match the Gigantuar’s weakness. This is basically random, so you’ll just have to get lucky or do enough damage either way.
- At the start of a battle, you’ll want to make sure there are at least 2-3 Gigantuars. They’re very likely to run away, so it helps your chances the more of them there are.
- Smash the Gigantuar’s Break meter, and put them into a Break status.
- Try to put all enemies onscreen into a Break status separately. If that isn’t an option, then just try to defeat them like you would in any regular battle.
- Use Support Cards / Rental Cards to boost your physical attack power.
- Cards like Brave are a life-saver here.
- Use your Ultimate Skill for a huge score multiplier.
- Don’t use the Ultimate Skill or powerful attacks too early. The Gigantuar will retreat if you hurt it too much too quickly. Slowly build your meter until you’re ready for a knock-out strike.
There are four types of cards you’ll earn for defeating Gigantaurs in battle, each providing a huge value. You’ll gain gil, XP, or Skill Seed levels.
- Gold Gigantuar Cards are sold for huge gil rewards.
- 2-Star Card sells for 10,000 gil.
- 3-Star Card sells for 40,000 gil.
- 4-Star Card sells for 150,000 gil.
- Metal Gigantuar Cards are used for fusion like their regular Cactuar counterparts.
- 2-Star Card fusions give 7,777 bonus XP.
- 3-Star Card fusions give 33,333 bonus XP.
- 4-Star Card fusions give 111,111 bonus XP.
- Gigantuar (Regular) Cards are used to earn Skill Seeds.
- Gigantuar Bulb Cards can upgrade a 4-Star card into a 5-Star card.
